I know most Asheville residents have enjoyed Hickory Nut Gaps selection of meats, either at a favorite restaurant, or cooked right at home. But few people know that the 90-acre property is open to the public daily from 9am-6pm. Hickory Nut Gap Farm is located in Fairview, NC about a 20 minute drive from downtown Asheville. The farm boasts seasonal activities including a u-pick, corn maze, and livestock viewing. Complete information can be found on their website. The land itself has been farmed by the same family since 1916. Amy Ager, current owner, gave me a tour of the property one chilly morning. She showed me around to the various places that can be rented out to large groups to hold private events. There is a large open air barn that once housed pigs over the winter, now converted into a venue space. Also available to rent is a smaller “party shed” great for smaller birthday parties or school groups. Both these spaces would be great for a catered lunch or dinner. The same family that owns Hickory Nut Gap Farms, also owns Old Shirell’s Inn, located a few miles down the road. Old Sherill’s Inn is a wonderfully private venue for an outdoor wedding.
